Bullying is an issue that is very important to Special Needs Special People. Many children with special needs often feel left out, and like no one understands them. However, as we discussed before, educating children about special needs can do wonders in mitigating this problem. Multiple studies show that TV has a huge affect on how children act and how they understand the society around them. According to the University of Michigan, kids that range from the ages of 6 to 11 spend an average of 28 hours watching TV per week. These 28 hours can be used for valuable purposes such as helping children learn about special needs and about how it does not completely define a person. This will also help increase the self-esteem of children with special needs as they learn that a person’s disability can be used as an asset to help others, and that they have many qualities to be proud about.
What is a better way to raise awareness with a Disney princess movie? Whether it is Belle’s ability to always see the best in everyone, or Mulan’s bravery and devotion to her country, these princesses are role models for children all around the world. The best thing is that they are loveable characters who are relatable and easy to connect to. Over the past years, Disney has featured a variety of different princesses with different ethnic backgrounds such as Native American, Arabic, Polynesian and Scottish. However, unfortunately, Disney has not yet made a movie about a princess with special needs. This means 93 million children with special needs do not have a princess that represents them on one of the world’s most watched television networks.
Disney is known for bringing people across the world together, and for showing that diversity is beautiful. It is time that Disney does its magic and brings a brave and lovable little princess with special needs to the screen that anyone will admire.
